Based on a comprehensive master plan, the existing Lodge Performing Arts Building was identified as the second building requiring demolition and replacement immediately after the new Dining Hall was completed. The existing building was structurally unstable and the size was clearly unable to meet the increasing programmatic needs of the performing arts program.
The new Lodge was designed with a similar aesthetic utilizing clean modern roof lines, natural materials, deep overhangs to encourage campers’ use and to keep unwanted solar heat gain off the building, and a central outdoor fireplace for camp gatherings and outdoor performances. The interior included a sound booth, tiered seating, theatrical lighting, and a formal stage create an authentic and contemporary theatrical setting that far exceeds the Camp’s previous ability to provide performing arts at this level. A set building space is located backstage and a second floor multipurpose rehearsal space is included to provide campers with a well-rounded exposure to performing arts.
