VGBN Vermont's Greenest Commercial Building 2017

Efficiency Vermont Best of Best New Commercial Construction 2016

Net Zero Ready

Middlebury, VT

For over 20 years, the Town of Middlebury had been contemplating what to do with their aging Municipal Town Office and Gymnasium building. The building was in disrepair and consumed significant amounts of fuel oil and electricity. After decades of failed attempts to create a path forward, with the financial assistance of Middlebury College, a bond vote was approved by residents to create two new buildings and a public park in the location of the old Municipal Building.

The new Town Office building includes a basement and two floors above grade, totaling 9,400 SF. A simple L-shaped building anchors the site and creates an outdoor public plaza. The massing and scale of the building are appropriate for the downtown Middlebury location and durable materials were selected to minimize maintenance and create a timeless public building.
